How to Send a File Through a Tweet
Twitter wasn't designed for file sharing, but rather for short banter between friends and colleagues. Still, you can sometimes use the website to transmit a file to other people. You can share the file with co-workers who all have access to the same network drive or covert it to an image that will be visible to anyone who sees the tweet.
Converting Files to Web Format
-
To send a file as a part of a tweet, you must first format it into Web-compatible format. Open the file in a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word, and convert it from its original format to a "Web Page." In Microsoft Word, click on the Microsoft symbol in the top left corner of the screen and then choose "Save As" from the menu. After opening the "Save As Type" drop-down menu, choose "Web Page" and save the file to a network location accessible by other users.
Finding File's Link
-
After you save a file to your computer as a Web page, you will need to locate the file's unique link before you can add it to a tweet. Double-click on the file from the location to which you saved it, which will open the file in a Web browser. Highlight the URL in the address bar at the top of the browser window and copy it. Paste the link location in your tweet and then click "Tweet" to send it out. Only those who have access to the drive to which you saved the file will be able to open it.
Converting Files to PDF
-
If you convert a file to PDF format, it will become an image. Images are quickly uploaded to an online sharing site, such as Flickr or Photobucket, which will provide a link that leads directly to the image. Convert a file to PDF format by opening it in a word processing program and clicking "Save As." Choose "PDF" in the "Save As Type" menu.
Adding PDFs to Tweets
-
Most photo sharing sites require you to create an account on the site, though a free option is typically available. After you create your account, use the website's upload process to add your PDF copy of the file to the site. Copy the direct link provided and paste it into your tweet. Click "Tweet" to send the file -- anyone will be allowed to view the full PDF file.
